Sediment Water Filters
The first line of defence against sand, silt and rust, rated in microns so pumps, taps and finer filters downstream are not clogged.
How we approach sediment water filters
Sediment filters catch sand, silt, rust and debris before they reach taps, appliances or finer filter stages. They are rated in microns: coarser cartridges of around 20 to 50 microns for borehole and tank water, and finer ones of around 1 to 5 microns ahead of carbon, UV or reverse osmosis.
Choosing the right rating matters. Too fine on a dirty supply and the cartridge clogs within weeks; too coarse and it lets through particles that shorten the life of everything after it. Heavily loaded supplies often use two sediment stages in a row.
What to check before buying
Getting the micron rating right protects everything after it.
Micron rating
The rating is matched to how much sediment the supply carries.
First stage
Sediment filtration protects every stage that follows.
Pressure check
A falling pressure reading shows when the cartridge needs changing.
FAQs
Questions before we quote
What micron sediment filter do I need?
It depends on the water. Borehole and tank water usually start at 20 to 50 microns, with a finer 1 to 5 micron stage before carbon, UV or RO.
Why does my sediment filter clog so quickly?
The rating may be too fine for the supply, or the water carries more sediment than expected. A coarser pre-filter in front usually fixes it.
Can a sediment filter remove iron?
Only iron that has already formed particles. Dissolved iron needs an oxidation or iron-removal stage first.
